Research in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
TMS for the treatment of depression has been widely researched and is FDA-approved for adult patients with moderate to severe depression who have have not received satisfactory benefit or relief from their symptoms with traditional forms of treatment. TMS offers a safe and effective treatment alternative.
While TMS is not yet FDA-approved for anxiety, there is strong research that suggests TMS is a safe and effective treatment for anxiety. Unlike traditional anxiety medications such as benzodiazepines, TMS does not cause feelings of sedation or fogginess, and does not cause physiologically dependence.
Current treatment of borderline personality disorder (BPD) consists of psychotherapy and pharmacological interventions and many patients so not benefit from these conventional methods of treatment. TMS has shown to improve symptoms of those with a personality disorder.
ADHD is a neurodevelopment disorder primarily impacting the ability to concentrate, sit still, stay organized, and finish tasks. The controversial standard treatment with stimulants may not be the best option for some patients. Research suggests that TMS can be a safe and effective treatment for those suffering with ADHD.
PTSD is generally caused by some type of traumatic experience and can wreak havoc on a persons life, causing flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, and depression. Research has shown that TMS helps to treat many of symptoms associated with this debilitating disorder, and can offer long-term symptom relief.
Theta burst stimulation (TBS) treatment protocols are FDA-approved and have emerged as a beneficial treatment for those where the standard treatment of several weeks is not viable. TBS, as a form of TMS treatment, can be completed in just a few days and is no less effective than the standard TMS therapy treatment.
